Homeopathic Ear Infection/Pain Remedies

In the past year I have fell victim to double ear infections three times. So when I got the unforgettable twinge of pain today, I headed off looking for homeopathic remedies. See, I’m tired of antibiotics, no insurance makes going to the doctor extensive and the cheaper antibiotics make me sick.

So here is what I found:

1. Using pain relievers. Pain relievers such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (such as Advil, Motrin, and Aleve) and acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) will help you feel better. Taking something for pain before bedtime is especially important. Follow all instructions on the label.

2. Applying heat to the ear, which may help with pain. Use a warm washcloth or a heating pad.

3. Encouraging rest. Resting will help the body fight the infection.

4. Using eardrops. Doctors often suggest eardrops for earache pain. Don’t use eardrops without a doctor’s advice, especially if you has tubes in your ears.

Things that DON’T work:

1. Decongestants, antihistamines, expectorants, and other over-the-counter cold remedies usually do not work for treating or preventing ear infections. Antihistamines that cause sleepiness may thicken fluids, which can make you feel worse. (Check with the doctor before giving these medicines to your child. Experts say not to give decongestants to children younger than age 2.)

If you aren’t better after a few days of home treatment, call your doctor.

Also, I read soaking cotton balls in peroxide and putting them in your ears might help. But that was not on a reputable site.
